Harlem Renaissance

In the 1920s there was a mass migration of African Americans to Harlem, New York. There the Harlem Renaissance would start, a time of great advancements for African American culture. In 1921 the Black Swan Corporation opened, the first US recording company to be owned, operated, and targeted to African Americans. ]All African American musicals would also start in 1921.



The Harlem Renaissance Basketball Club would be founded in 1923. During the 1920s and late 1930s they would be known as the best team in the world.

Oppurtunity: A Journal of Negro Life was published as a popular magazine for African Americans.

Notable African-American authors such as Langston Hughe s and Zora Neale Hurston began to achieve a level of national public recognition during the 1920s
